SEOUL MARKET | DIRECTOR/EDITOR
For 20 years, 62-year-old Sam Park and his wife have quietly kept the last Asian grocery store in Flint, Michigan alive. In a struggling city where only 0.6% of the population is Asian, this mom-and-pop shop now faces the growing challenge of a declining customer base.
Seoul Market is a reflection of my interest in telling raw and authentic stories about ordinary Asian Americans, grounded in real, often overlooked settings, and my overall goal to bring visibility to the communities and stories that may exist beyond the mainstream.
This film is a love letter to the overlooked—to small businesses that serve as cultural anchors, to aging immigrant parents, to working-class towns, and to the quiet spaces that go unseen, yet continue to sustain our cultures and communities.
